radiation resistant cameras

Split-Head Design for Radiation-Tolerance and Compact Size

Unlike bulkier shielded cameras, the D40’s optimized split-head design makes it both extremely compact and naturally resistant to radiation. Minimal electronics are located inside the camera itself and only non-browning optics are incorporated. Most of the camera system components are housed in the topside camera control unit (CCU).

Common D40 Applications

  • IVVI of BWR reactor internals
  • PWR MRP Reactor Vessel inspections
  • Control rod blade inspection, while within loaded reactor core
  • Inspection of irradiated fuel cladding
  • Below-core plate FOSAR operations
  • Spent fuel cask loading operations
  • Decontamination and Decommissioning activity surveillance
  • Hot cell surveillance

D40 Inspection Camera

Considered by many in the industry as the gold standard of radiation-proof cameras, Diakont’s D40 offers the perfect mix of high resolution, small size, and high radiation tolerance required for reliable, precision performance in an extreme environment. Due to its compact diameter of just “1.58”, this camera is perfectly suited for the inspection of confined areas like reactor component interiors. Its modular design and range of attachments makes it the ideal “utility camera”, in which a single camera system can be reconfigured to support all types of plant operations and maintenance.

Due to its innovative technology and proven reliability, the D40 camera system has won deserved popularity from nuclear power plant builders, contractors, and operators worldwide. Today, over 1000 systems have been deployed in Russia, the United States, Japan, France, Finland, and other countries.

Foreign Object Removal System (FORS)

Diakont’s radiation-tolerant Foreign Object Removal System (FORS) provides the ideal solution for your nuclear power plant’s Foreign Object Search and Retrieval (FOSAR) needs.
Diakont’s FORS complements your station’s FME program within reactor cavities and spent fuel pools by providing reliable tooling for identifying and retrieving foreign material that, left within reactor components, can cause catastrophic damage to system integrity and plant safety. Designed with a compact chassis, this system is ideal for difficult-to-access locations such as fuel top and bottom nozzles, near the core plate, refueling cavities, the BWR annulus, and more.
Featuring an integrated Diakont’s D40 camera, Diakont’s FORS utilizes various gripper head attachments to scan, locate, and remove foreign material.
